How to Read the Clock
Hour — the large numbers (1–12), short Red hand.
Minutes — the Blue hand.
Seconds — the Green hand.
The 60 marks: 0/60 at the top, going clockwise 1 → 60 for minutes and seconds.
Telling Time in Words
A quarter hour = 15 min · a half hour = 30 min.
• 10:15 → “ten fifteen” or “quarter past ten”
• 10:30 → “ten thirty” or “half past ten”
• 10:45 → “ten forty-five” or “a quarter to eleven”
“past” = after the hour · “to” = before the next hour.
Fun fact: A “blue moon” is when there are 2 full moons in the same month — about once every 33 months. That’s where we get the saying “once in a blue moon” — meaning “not very often.”
